Eight Walks Along the River Thames: Bermondsey with historian Paul Sinclair
Once the seat of the country's wealthiest abbey, where monks found a crucifix in the Thames mud and saw it as a miracle, the site of London's most dubious market, where decent ladies came to help the poor and the heart of the country's leather industry. Known as London's Larder with it's many food and drink factories toiling day and night to turn the empire's raw materials into finished foods for Britain and it subjects across the world. Once one of the poorest areas now the site of Europe's largest private art gallery. How times change!
