Inside London: The Union Chapel Paul Sinclair

Inside London: The Union Chapel Paul Sinclair

Come along to visit the Union Chapel. It is an amazing space and a Grade 1 listed architectural treasure.

It’s one of the country’s one finest examples of the Victorian high gothic revival style, both inside and out. Over the past 25 years the Chapel has gone from facing demolition and being virtually abandoned to welcoming tens of thousands of visitors a year.

The congregation was founded when a small group of Anglicans decided their vicar was "too worldly" and broke away to worship with a group of non conformists - hence the name the Union Chapel in 1799. It still functions as a working church and as an award winning venue.

The tour will guide us through the story of the small village that was here two hundred years ago, the formation of the church, the features of the building and its current use.

A tour of the area will follow to put the building in context.

Optional lunch to follow.

Meet at 10.45 for tea at Amici's, right opposite Highbury and Islington station. We'll leave here at 11.10 as the tour starts at 11.15.
