Radicals, Religion and Rookeries - walking tour with Blue Badge guide Laurence
Meet 11-11.15 outside Barbican Station
An area once religious , the well-trodden paths around Charterhouse, Smithfield and Clerkenwell have gone through many changes over the past few hundred years, from being an area of religion, radicals and rookeries to one of architects and artists. We will see where many a body was buried after the plague, a site of executions, the spot where Oliver Twist and the Artful Dodger go pickpocketing, a church where a mate of Dick Turpin is buried and finish at what is , in my opinion, one of London's most wonderful little streets (fairly unknown) full of cafes and not short on history.
