Highlights of Vietnam Touring Holiday

There’s more to Vietnam than the traditional image of rice paddies and conical hats. It's a country bursting with energy and ambition. There's a buzz on the streets, the joy of tasting delicious food, and a pride in their rich culture.

This tour has twelve full days in Vietnam providing an introduction to the cultural and historical heritage of the country. A fascinating journey for anyone wishing to enjoy unique travel experiences in one of Asia’s most exotic and dynamic nations. The tour starts in the largest city, Ho Chi Minh City, still known to many by its former name Saigon. A city of contrasts. The pace of life is often frenetic and yet retains an air of calm, where classic French architecture sits beside new high-rise buildings. A day trip into the Mekong Delta presents an entirely different side of Vietnam and an intriguing glimpse of rural life.

A flight to the central region brings you to the charming town of Hoi An notable for tiny teeming streets and crooked houses. Once a trading port for Chinese, Japanese and Europeans, their influences result in an eclectic mix of architectural styles, ranging from Chinese assembly halls to grand merchants' houses to French colonial villas.

Heading north from Hoi An the road crosses the Hai Van pass with breath-taking views and continues down into Hue, the historical seat of power of the Nguyen Empire. Along the Perfume River, the city is home to elaborate tombs, pagodas and mausoleums which hint at the glories of the dynastic past.

The journey from Hue to the capital Hanoi is an adventure on board an overnight sleeper train as it rumbles through the lush green fields. Hanoi is Asia's most charming capital, a city of tree-lined boulevards, elegant villas and tranquil parks. The Old Quarter is a living museum, steeped in history with a host of cafes and art galleries.

The climax of the tour is an overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay. This spectacular natural wonder, in the Gulf of Tonkin, comprises nearly 3,000 islands forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars and sheer cliff faces.

The tour price is £3,580 per person excluding international flights, based on a group of 10 to 12 solo travellers. International flights presently cost £520 per person in economy class, but this is subject to change, so the price can only be confirmed at the time of booking with payment of a non-refundable deposit. The balance will be due twelve weeks before departure.
