Hi everyone,
I’ve been prescribed Clomid for ovulation induction and my doctor suggested a starting dose of 50 mg per day. I’m curious about the effectiveness and any side effects associated with this dosage in Australia.
Has anyone else had experience with this medication? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Hello HealthEnthusiast123,
Clomiphene citrate (Clomid) is commonly prescribed for inducing ovulation in women who have difficulty conceiving due to irregular or absent ovulation. The typical starting dose is indeed 50 mg per day, taken orally once daily for five days, usually starting on the fifth day of your menstrual cycle.
Effectiveness:- At this dosage, Clomid works by blocking estrogen receptors in the brain, which stimulates the release of hormones that ultimately induce ovulation.- Most women will respond to this dose and start ovulating within three months. However, some may require a higher dose if they don't achieve ovulation with the initial 50 mg.
Side Effects:- Common side effects include hot flashes, mood swings, breast tenderness, and headaches. These are usually mild but can be bothersome for some.- There's also a small risk of multiple pregnancies (twins or more), which is something to consider if you're planning your family size.
I recommend discussing any concerns about effectiveness or side effects with your healthcare provider to ensure that the treatment plan is right for you. If there are no improvements after three cycles, the dose might be increased or other treatments considered.
Best of luck on your journey!

Hi HealthEnthusiast123,
I was prescribed Clomid at the same dosage and found it very effective. I had regular ovulation after only two months of taking it.
Side effects were minimal for me; just some mild mood swings, which weren't too disruptive. My doctor monitored my progress closely with ultrasound scans to ensure that everything was going smoothly.
It's essential to follow your doctor’s advice regarding the dosage and any additional monitoring required. If you're concerned about side effects or effectiveness, don’t hesitate to reach out for further guidance!
Wishing you all the best!

Absolutely agree with DrMedic8. Staying in close touch with your healthcare provider is vital.
One piece of advice I have is to try to maintain a healthy lifestyle during this time. Eating well and managing stress can make a big difference in how you feel while taking Clomid.
Good luck, and keep us updated on your progress!
