DESCRIPTION

Once home to Edward Augustus Bowles (1865-1954), a famous British self-taught gardener, artist and expert botanist, the garden plays host to a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers as well as an extensive heritage kitchen garden and cut flower beds.

Bowles was the great uncle of Andrew Parker Bowles, ex-husband of Camilla Parker Bowles and the Bowles family still maintain contact with goings-on at the gardens today

This is so much more than a garden.

Bowles dedicated his life to maintaining the gardens, bringing back unusual plants from his travels so the garden displays his imaginative vision and a treasure trove of hidden gems and oddities, including four climatic zones harbouring a host of exotic plants, a beautifully reconstructed sunken Victorian glasshouse, a ‘Lunatic Asylum’ bed, a special vine house and a ‘Wisteria Bridge’. And artefacts of local and national interest such as a part of Old London Bridge and the Enfield Market Cross.

The gardens are also home to a charming tearoom if you fancy refreshment before or after our tour.

Cost: £15.50 per person
(includes two-hour private guided tour and MeetUp fee).

Places are limited to 12 people.
