Tim’s history of London. walk 5. Wren’s Greenwich

This is identical to Thursday’s (31/10/19) walk which filled up very quickly.

We meet in the lounge of the Novotel at 10.45 for a coffee and a chat before starting walking at 11.15 through historic Greenwich.
The Novotel is on Greenwich High Road outside Greenwich mainline station with trains from London Bridge.
Alternatively you can use the DLR to Greenwich station (NOT Cutty Sark station). If so,Novotel is 100 yards .to your left down the high road.

Greenwich has a history dating back 2000 years and on this exclusive tour we will explore how everybody since the Romans have left their mark on it.
It reached its peak at the end of the seventeenth century when intellectual giants like Christopher Wren and Isaac Newton led the English Enlightenment. Greenwich is the town which illustrates how Wren wanted to rebuild London.

Highlights of the walk are likely to include:

Wren's great palace and observatory
The most revolutionary house in Britain
Hawksmoor's beautiful church
Straddling the hemispheres (for free!)
The beautiful gardens
The best view in London
One of London's greatest art galleries

This walk is suitable whatever the weather. We’ll be visiting, albeit briefly, half a dozen museums, churches and galleries. This is a great introduction to the glories of Greenwich.
Afterwards we'll enjoy a meal in a riverside pub before taking theDLR to get home.

Cost is £10
