Tastes of Asia. Sichuan lunch at Little Sichuan, Finchley Rd

Asian cuisine offers the most diverse, exciting, healthy and tasty food on the planet. I am fortunate to have lived in Singapore and travelled throughout Asia enjoying the local food. Now that I have returned to London, my home town, I am on a mission to locate restaurants that serve true Asian food; seeking out places which recreate the authentic tastes of that fascinating continent.

I normally host lunches on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, but on this occasion I will postpone to the fifth Sunday of the month, Sunday March 29^th, so as not to clash with the 45+ Not Grumpy travel social on Saturday March 21^st on board the Tattershall Castle boat on the Thames.

We stated in February by enjoying the refined delicate tastes of Vietnam.  Earlier this month we encountered the bold complex dishes of traditional Malay cooking.  Now, we will experience the fiery tastes of Sichuan Province in the People’s Republic of China.  Sichuan cuisine is noted for the liberal use of garlic and chili peppers which create strong flavours, markedly different to the familiar tastes of Cantonese cuisine normally served in Chinese restaurants in the UK.

Little Sichuan is small family run restaurant located at 279C Finchley Rd, West Hampstead, NW3 6LT.  Finchley Road is the nearest tube station.  Also close by is Finchley Road & Frognal station on the Overground.

The cost is as incurred for individual lunch orders, plus a £7 event fee which is payable upon arrival.

As usual, after the lunch we might take a stroll to a nearby pub to continue the conversation over a pint.
