Virtual Cafe - Grab a cuppa and have some fun online all week

WHAT IS THE VIRTUAL CAFE?

A virtual space to have a chat with other Not Grumpies about a particular topic, via the telephone (audio only) or your computer (audio and video). Don't forget to grab a cuppa before you join!

WHAT'S THE TOPIC OF THE DAY?

Dee will kick things off with some history anecdotes. After that, attendees will be encouraged to share their own favourite eras of history in smaller groups of 3-5 people.

HOW WILL THE CAFE WORK?

Your Zoom host (Duncan) will admit you into the main room, where we can have a quick chat whilst we wait for late arrivals. At 3:10pm, Dee will begin her introduction, lasting 5-10 minutes. All attendees will be muted.

At the end of the introduction, there may be an opportunity to ask questions; attendees will be unmuted one-by-one to do so.

After questions, you will be allocated to virtual "tables" of between 3-5 people, where you can take it in turns to introduce yourselves to each other, then share your own favourite eras of history.

A few minutes before the end, the host will bring everyone together and mute everyone again for closing announcements, questions and/or suggestions.

WHEN SHOULD I JOIN?

Please join as promptly as possible in order to hear Dee's introduction. However, late comers are still welcome and will be added to a table.

HOW DO I JOIN BY COMPUTER (video and/or audio)?

If you have the Zoom Application downloaded already, the Application should open and take you straight to the Virtual Cafe. If not, you'll be presented with the option to download the Zoom Application for the first time (better if you want to join quicker next time), or else skip the download and "join from your browser" (better if you're in a rush and don't want to fiddle with downloads this time).

2. When you join, you'll be placed in a Waiting Room and will need to wait for the host to admit you.

3. You can turn your video on/off, or mute/unmute your microphone, at the bottom left of your screen.

If you have trouble, try joining by telephone instead (see above).

HOW DO I JOIN BY TELEPHONE (audio only)?

1. Dial 020 8080 6592 from your phone, and be ready for step 2.
You should hear a voice recording welcome you to Zoom and ask you to enter a "Meeting ID".

2. Enter 958 739 216 (your Meeting ID), followed by the hash (#) key.
You should hear a voice recording asking for a "Participant ID", or asking for just a hash (#) to continue.

3. Press hash (#) to continue, or just wait. Ignore instructions re: "Participant ID".
You should hear a voice recording say that you are in the meeting and tell you how many people are inside. It will then inform you that the host has put you on hold and that you must wait to be admitted. Finally, you should hear some holding music.

4. Wait until the music stops and your host says hello!

If you have trouble joining, it may be because Zoom is struggling with the load during the crisis. It can sometimes help to try one of their alternative numbers.

HOW DO I LEAVE?

You can leave whenever you like by hanging up the phone, or clicking "Leave Meeting". However, please do say goodbye to the people you've been speaking to.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Joining via the computer is free. Joining via the telephone amounts to the cost of the call - the same as dialling a London local landline number. If you have minutes included in your telephone plan, this will be an included call.

normally isolated, please invite them to join us.
