A four day spectacular Springtime break in West Cornwall with Lits

Details

Picturesque fishing harbours, sandy beaches, scenic rail rides, coastal paths and cream teas……..Penzance, Carbis Bay, St Ives, Newlyn and Mousehole.

As we can’t head for the Med let’s aim for our own Riviera.
I propose we base ourselves in an historic hotel in the heart of Penzance, with its’ wonderful granite buildings, thriving artist community and beautiful gardens, all overlooking the stunning Mounts Bay.

Monday 21st
Arrive late afternoon in Penzance and be transferred the short distance from the train station to our hotel.
After checking in we will enjoy a guided walking tour around the town being regaled with stories of admirals, smugglers, pirates and rebels ending with a ‘Penzance pirate pizza’ supper at a legendary smugglers inn.

Tuesday 22nd
After breakfast we will take a short train ride to St Ives, said to be one of the most scenic in Britain with spectacular views from the train window as the line sweeps along the golden sands and turquoise waters of Hayle Towans and Carbis Bay before arriving in St Ives.
We will then stroll through the cobbled streets and make our way for a visit to Barbara Hepworth’s house & beautiful sculpture garden with a little free time afterwards to wander the shops, art galleries (Tate St Ives?) or just enjoy the beach.
In the afternoon we will follow the gentle coastal path running above the railway line and walk to Carbis Bay, one of the UK’s most beautiful beaches and scene of last year’s G7 conference for world leaders.
From here we will return on the train to Penzance.

Wednesday 23rd
A day exploring a three mile stretch of the south-west coastal path - passing the promenade in Penzance with its’ iconic art deco Jubilee Pool, we will take a leisurely stroll on to the thriving fishing port of Newlyn, also home to the post-impressionist art movement, the ‘Newlyn School’ stopping to pop into the famous gallery and enjoy refreshment at one of the quality cafés.
Continuing on to Mousehole once described by poet Dylan Thomas as ‘the prettiest village in England’ to browse around the picture perfect harbour and ancient narrow alleyways before catching a bus back to Penzance.

Thursday 24th
After checking out of our hotel we will take a short walk to Penlee House, a characterful building that was originally a Victorian family home, surrounded by a delightful sub-tropical park which has been converted to create a first class gallery and museum focussing on the area’s unique, rich cultural heritage and the Newlyn School of Art.
It is also home to a wonderful café that could provide a perfect lunch before departure.
