Scilly Isles a place of wondrous sites and walks - with Glen

The Scilly Isles remain my favourite holiday destination in the UK. A collection of five inhabited islands and over 100 uninhabited islets or 'off islands', the Scillies provides a haven for wildlife people alike. The extremely inflexible approach to development has ensured that the islands remain a completely unspoilt corner of England that should stay that way for the foreseeable future.

Travel options are by boat via the MV Scillonian from Penzance. Plane from Exeter or Penzance or by helicopter . The flights are quite expensive (£90 each way) as you would expect, and take about 15 minutes. The journey by boat will take around 2.5 hours. The last time I travelled I chose to take the ferry to the islands from Penzance and then flew back to Lands End.

Our hostel - not really a hostel, (would pass for a luxury hotel in many parts of the UK!!) is on St Marys, the larger of the islands. This will be enforced relaxation. There are acres of open spaces, amazing clifftop walks, white powder beaches, incredible birdlife, dolphins, seal colonies, and pasties!!!

On our first day I will take everyone for a walk around the south of the island, straight from the ferry. This will be a very slow, easy stroll - there is just so much to see! We will stop for food at Town Beach and continue along the cliff tops to Porthellick Beach lounging on the dunes and if the tide is in, the pool there is excellent for swimming. We will then head for our accommodation where our bags will be waiting for us.

On Sunday we will travel by boat to Tresco and explore the tropical gardens - yes tropical, with their very own colony of red squirrels. The Scillies lie right in the gulf stream and benefit from their own micro climate which means that trees, plants and shrubs from all over the world thrive there - along with a group of resident red squirrels. Again we will spend most of the day enjoying the gardens and I will lead a walk around the island. All of the islands have substantial architectural remains of previous occupiers dating from 4000bc.

We can decide what to do with Monday whilst enjoying our weekend. Options include but are not limited to:
Shark fishing
Snorkelling with seals
Various round island boat trips/Island walking tours.
Horse Riding
Kayaking
Stand Up Paddleboarding

We may need to book some of these activities in advance.

I understand that some of you are not keen on hostel accommodation but would still like to make the trip. Please use https://www.visitislesofscilly.com/ as a reference point. Try to book rooms in St. Mary - its a tiny town so wherever you are we will not be too far apart.

Let me know when you've sourced accommodation and we will continue to work on transport options and car sharing. If you do want to book alternative accommodation I strongly recommend that you do so well in advance. This is an incredibly popular destination with most hotels/B and Bs able to rely almost exclusively on repeat bookings.

We will leave our accommodation on Tuesday for our boat/plane/helicopter home. Hopefully having had a truly memorable experience.

Cost £240 - accommodation only.
Two days guided walking.

PAYMENT IN FULL IS REQUIRED NO LATER THAN 31st August - NO EXCEPTIONS. Before you pay please understand that I will NOT be in a position to refund any monies paid in respect of this event, regardless of the reason.

Does not include travel to or from the islands and any meals. If you travel down on Friday night you will need overnight accommodation in Penzance. I can help with suggestions that start at around £20 for the night. There are plenty of shops on St. Mary and some extremely good value and high quality restaurants, cafes and bars.

As ever please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions at all.
