New! The Strand: Yesterday and Today - tour with Laurence
Meet at Temple tube station @ 11am for 11.10 start
Fee £15
Few places in London encapsulate its one time grandiosity with the urban features of modern day like this long street running from the end of Fleet Street up to Traflagar Square.
A lost tube station, a lost theatre (now an office block) and lost mansions( not all gone though) once graced this long thoroughfare, which was also at one time London's major shopping street.
We have the church where Dickens' parents were married, the glorious Somerset House, the Savoy, side streets leading on one side to Covent Garden and the other down to the river.
Among the characters we'll get associated with the aforementioned Dickens, some Stuart royalty, Dylan Thomas , JK Rowling, Gilbert and Sullivan and Sherlock Holmes - which one is the odd one out?
It's typical London; the old and the new cheek by jowl.
