Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with hair loss for a while now. I’ve heard that Propecia (finasteride) is effective. Can anyone share their experience using it? Also, where can one buy it legally in the UK?

Hello BaldButBeautiful,

I’m not a doctor but I have some information that might be helpful. Propecia is indeed known to help with hair loss in men due to male-pattern baldness. Before you decide to buy it, though, it's important to consult a healthcare provider or dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.

Thanks DocInShoes! That makes sense. I think I'll talk to my GP first. Where can one typically buy Propecia in the UK if prescribed?

Hello BaldButBeautiful,

I’m a dermatologist and I often recommend finasteride (Propecia) to patients with male-pattern baldness. If you get a prescription from your GP or another healthcare provider, you can buy it from pharmacies like Boots or LloydsPharmacy. Online pharmacies that are registered under the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) also offer it but ensure they require a valid prescription.

DrHairLoss, thanks so much for your advice! I'll schedule an appointment with my GP next week. Any side effects I should be aware of?

You’re welcome BaldButBeautiful!

Propecia is generally well-tolerated but like any medication, it can have some side effects. Common ones include reduced libido (sex drive), erectile dysfunction, and a decrease in semen volume. These typically resolve once you stop taking the medication. However, if they persist or cause significant concern, please reach out to your healthcare provider.

Also important to note BaldButBeautiful, Propecia doesn't work for everyone. Results can vary and it usually takes several months before you notice any significant changes in hair growth. Patience is key!
