North Greenwich to Eltham via Oxleas Wood and Severndroog Castle

This is a lovely, varied and interesting walk of approximately 8 miles, and if you have the opportunity to do it, do come along as you will not be disappointed.

We will meet at 10.30 am at Café Rouge for coffee I will reserve some tables and have a meet up sign on them. After coffee we will make our way following the Thames Path to the Thames barrier.

After the Thames Barrier we will walk to Maryon & Maryon Wilson Parks.

We will then go to Charlton House, for a loo break.

After Charlton House, we will make our way to Woolwich Common and then Severndroog Catle which is in Oxleas Wood.{ and a lovely wood to walk in}.

To go to the top of the castle cost is £3, we will then go for lunch at the café in Oxleas Wood or bring our own sandwiches where the views are worth seeing.

After lunch we will we will carry on our walk in Oxlea Wood, cross the A2 relief road, and enter Jack Wood, from Jack Wood we will go over a bridge, crossing the busy A2 and into Eltham Park.

From Eltham Park, we will make our way to the Tudor Barn, {image above} for a well earned drink.

(The Tudor Barn is a large brick barn in Eltham in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It was built in 1525 by William Roper. The Ropers lived next door in a manor house in the centre of a moat for several years.

William Roper (c. 1496 – 4 January 1578) was an English lawyer and member of Parliament. The son of a Kentish gentleman, he married Margaret, daughter of Sir Thomas More. He wrote a highly regarded biography of his father-in-law.}

With Eltham Station being a few minutes away with trains going to London Bridge, Waterloo, Cannon Street and Charing Cross. and buses that will take you to North Greenwich Station {Jubilee Line}

Please ensure you are wearing boots as the woodland paths can get extremely muddy.

If you have a knee problem or walk slow, this walk is definitely not for you.
