From Monks and Nuns to an Angel - walking tour with Laurence
Meet 11-11.15 outside Farringdon Station
An area once religious , Clerkenwell has gone through many changes over the past few hundred years, from being an area of radicals and rookeries to one of architects and artists. We will see where Oliver Twist and the Artful Dodger go pickpocketing, a church where a mate of Dick Turpin is buried and visit the site of a prison which was the scene of an explosion in the 19th Century. But its not just Clerkenwell! We will walk from this wonderful , often undiscovered area of London towards the Angel at Islington, where we'll see a housing estate that was once a spa, an unusual Grade One listed building and meet a clown. Once upon a time we could have finished at a Lyon's Corner House, but these days ....we will have to satisfy ourselves with a cafe or a pub.
