Hello, Mr Turner...An Introduction to perhaps England's Greatest Painter

I have spent many years of my life as a professional photographer and Mr Turner's skill in expressing emotion through light never ceases to astound me.

Let me share with you my enthusiasm for what many agree is England's greatest painter as I guide you around the largest collection of Turner's paintings in the world...

He was born on the 23rd April 1775 and died on the 19th December 1851 and was a 'Romantic' landscape painter and printmaker, whose style can be said to have laid the foundation for 'Impressionism'.

His work was exhibited when he was still a teenager and he continued to be successful throughout his career.

Turner became the most celebrated painter in England and over one hundred and sixty years later, we celebrate contemporary artists of the same innovating spirit through the aptly named Turner Prize.

Turner's will left more than 19,000 watercolours, drawings, and oils to the British nation.
Most of these works are in the National Gallery and the Tate Gallery.
The Tate Britain is home to the largest collection of works by Joseph Mallord William Turner.

We will meet at midday and have a drink or a coffee at The Morpeth Arms Public House near the Tate Britain at 58 Millbank.
At around 12.30 we will stroll the two hundred yards to the Tate Britain and view the Turner Collection at the Tate.
I will concentrate on about a dozen or so of JMW Turner's extensive works to illustrate his methods, his inspirations and his development...
Of course the opportunity will be there to enjoy all of his output that is exhibited at the Tate.
We will spend a good couple of hours viewing the Turner Collection before returning to the Morpeth Arms for lunch.
