Hays Galleria, Tooley St to Historic Bermondsey Street and White Cube paul

Come along for a walk (leaving Cafe Rouge at 11.30) along the river, past the HMS Belfast, More London and then onto historic Bermondsey or Beormund's eg (it's original Saxon name).

Walk past Jacob's Island, famously used in Oliver Twist (see circa 1873). Back in the day, it was considered one of the many South London slums and had a very bad reputation. Today, it is considered to be one of the most attractive places to live.

Visit Bermondsey Street, which is lined with beautiful old warehouses, museums, shops (including the Design and Textile museum) coffee houses and restaurants. We will visit the latest exciting exhibition at the white cube {image below} it is advisable to check what exhibition is on before you sign up.

We will stop for lunch at one of the many cafes in Bermondsey Street

At approx 2pm we will follow the river again, heading East - taking in other places of interest and end with a drink at the famous MAYFLOWER pub - which is situated on the river and has a lovely little jetty to have a drink outside. There is a small viewing point situated at the front and great for taking photos.

Nearest station is Canada Water on the Jubilee line. Or Rotherhithe on the London overground - which is around 2 minutes walk away.

Total walking distance will be about 4 miles appox.

There will be a few stops to take pictures (there is plenty to photograph).

If you need any more information phone or text Paul 0n 07530 675739 {this is not a smart phone}

Please note: The £5 fee will be collected on the day. If you do decide not to attend, please remember to update your RSVP.

IMPORTANT DIRECTIONS BELOW.

London Bridge Station has many exits, so do make sure you leave via the Duke St Hill exit, cross the road and head East to Hays Galleria along Tooley St (only a few mins walk). The entrance to Hays is almost opposite the old London Dungeon (which has now moved to another location) Cafe Rouge has lovely seats outside (Hays Galleria is undercover but outside, so if it rains, you won't get wet). There is a large ship sculpture in the centre of Hays Galleria - and Cafe Rouge is to the left.

How to find us

Meet at the outside seating Cafe Rouge, Hays Galleria off Tooley st. I will have a sign. Leave via the Duke St Hill exit at London Bridge Stn (Northern and Jubilee line)
