Lee Valley Walk and a visit to the William Morris Gallery at Walthamstow.

Lee Valley Walk and a visit to the William Morris Gallery at Walthamstow.

Come along with me and Sonja on this enjoyable Meetup, a fascinating mix of towpath walking and cultural heritage.

We will meet at Pure Coffee in Gracechurch Street at 10.30 am and at 10.50 am we will make our way to Liverpool Street Station for the 11.12 am train to Ponders End Station, a journey of about 20 minutes.

After a short walk from the station we will join the towpath of River Lee Navigation walking south.

About five miles later we will reach The Ferry Boat Inn in Tottenham Hale where we will have lunch - {please advise if you want lunch.

For anyone who does not wish to have lunch in the pub there is an opportunity to visit Walthamstow Wetlands, London Wildlife Trust, across the road in the meantime.

After lunch we will get a bus to the William Morris Gallery (image above), distance 1.5 miles.

Entry to the gallery is free and there’s a nice cafe inside.

The William Morris Gallery is a museum devoted to the life and works of William Morris, an English Arts and Crafts designer and early socialist.

It is located in Walthamstow at Water House, a substantial Grade II* listed Georgian home. The extensive grounds of the building are a public park, known as Lloyd Park.

Curiously, we have come across William Morris on other Meetup walks, namely Red House in Bexleyheath and Merton Abbey Mills in Colliers Wood.

Water House in Walthamstow is where William Morris lived as a teenager and this is where our Meetup ends, leaving you to look around the gallery and park at your leisure.

Walthamstow Central Station with Overground and the Victoria Line is a 15 minute walk from the gallery.

£5 meet up fee on arrival {please have the right change}.

If you have a knee problem or walk slow this walk is not for you.

If you need any more info ring or text Paul on 07530 675739 {this is not a smart phone}

COV'D 19 regulations will apply so please bring along a mask, and hand sanitiser with you.

Please advise me at least 24 hrs before if you cannot make this, so some one else can take your place.
