Downe Circular Walk-Spectacular Views- Challenging Paths.

Downe Circular Walk-Spectacular Views- Challenging Paths.

Come with me on a spectacular & challenging walk called The Downe Circular walk. walking distance 5.5 miles.

We will meet inside the Richmal Crompton Pub at 10.45 am {Wetherspoons} which is opposite Bromley South Station, leaving at 11.30 am sharp to get our bus to Downe Village.

We start our walk here, which takes at the back of Downe House, which was the home of Charles Darwin 1802-1882.

{Writing to his sister. Darwin described the nature of the countryside surrounding his home. ''the charm of the place to me is that every field is intercepted by one or more footpaths. I never saw so many walks in any other county. It is surprising to think London is only 16 miles away''1842}.

Our walk will takes us through woodland paths, some steep and challenging, we also walk through a valley where the views are amazing.

We will stop for lunch outside the Blacksmiths Arms car park, where there are many picnic benches in a field.

This will also be our loo stop, and you can get a drink there if you wanted to.

After lunch we will carry on the circular walk back to Downe, which again is challenging in some areas.

{Our walk will take us into Downe Bank Nature Reserve , Charles Darwins ''Orchis Bank'' mentioned in the closing paragraph of On the Origin of Species}

From here we are not far from finishing our walk.

When arriving back into Downe Village if we have time, we will stop for a drink in one of the pubs there.

The buses here are hourly and will take us back to Bromley South Station.

Please note: It is advised that you bring a packed lunch with you.

You wear suitable foot wear and bring walking poles if you have them, and that you are reasonably fit.

If you have a knee problem or walk slow this walk is definitely not for you.
