Down and Out in Clerkenwell- walking tour with Blue Badge guide Laurence
Meet 11-11.15 outside Barbican Station
This walk begins near a housing estate that has housed Norman Tebbit, John Smith , Arthur Scargill, George Best and Clive James......and the characters associated with this area don't get any less interesting after that!
An area once religious , the well-trodden paths around Charterhouse, Smithfield and Clerkenwell have gone through many changes over the past few hundred years, from being an area of religion, radicals and rookeries to one of architects and artists. We will see where many a body was buried after the plague, a site of executions, the spot where Oliver Twist and the Artful Dodger go pickpocketing, a church where a mate of Dick Turpin is buried and a spot most would walk right past (understandably) but an important landmark in this particular area.
Pay £10 on the day
