Londons Historical Churches , Walbrook to Cheapside

New Walk.
Come along with me as we visit some historical churches in the City of London.
We will meet at Sir John Hawkshaw (Wetherspoons) on the forecourt of Cannon Street Station for a hot drink at 10.45 am, leaving at 11.15 am to visit our first church which is the nearby St Stephen Walbrook, the most famous of Wren’s churches.
{ It was the 300 year anniversary of Sir Christopher Wren who died on 25/2/1723}
The walk then continues towards Tower Hill, Aldgate and Austin Friars, stopping at various churches on the way, and ends at St Mary-Le-Bow in Cheapside (image above).
St Mary-le-Bow is internationally famous for its bells, which also feature in the nursery rhyme 'Oranges and Lemons’. According to legend, Dick Wittington heard the bells calling him back to the city in 1392, leading him to become Lord Mayor. Traditionally, anyone born within earshot of the bells was considered to be a true Londoner, or Cockney.
If you have brought your own lunch, you can have it here, afterwards we will find a local pub.
Farringdon, Barbican & St Paul’s stations are less than 10 minutes’ walk away.
£6 meet up fee, please pay on arrival and have the right change
