Historical Walk through Greenwich and Blackheath.

Historical Walk through Greenwich and Blackheath.

Come with Paul and a local history guide. details as follows. 10.45 - 11.15 Social coffee at the Gate Clock pub right next to the DLR Cutty Sark stop. I will have a sign...

11.15 Leave for a stroll around Greenwich Park with its very special views across the river and Maritime buildings - visit the Observatory (free admission) and lovely flower gardens - where we will hopefully see the park Deer in the 'Wilderness' and then up to Blackheath.

We will point out some interesting sites along the way, including the location of the Peasants Revolt (14th century poll tax riots) the birthplace of Henry V111 and where Dick Turpin is rumoured to have held up many stage coaches.

We will then do a loop and travel down the West side of the park, taking in the Rose Garden - which holds 113 different varieties (seaonal) and Queen Caroline's bath, the park Rangers house and the beatiful Georgian house, where General Woolfe lived.

We will then visit the Queen's House, with its stunning art galleries - and spectacular Tulip Staircase (see if you can spot the ghostly figure hanging from the bannister). Entrance is also free.

We will then have a late lunch in Wetherspoons, and after lunch walk around the Christmas Markets.

With the Cutty Sark DLR station close by.

Total walking is approx miles - please bear in mind there are a few steep slopes in the park, so do wear comfortable shoes.
