Westerham Christmas Tree Festival, and exploring this historical town.

Westerham Christmas Tree Festival, and exploring this historical town.

Come with me to the Christmas Tree Festival in St Mary's Church Westerham and then explore this Historical Town. We will meet at Bromley South Station at 10.45 am {you can get a fast train from Victoria at 10.25 am to arrive at Bromley South at 10.41am. At 10.59am we will pick up the bus for a 40 minute bus ride to Westerham Village going pass Biggin Hill aerodrome.

On arrival at Westerham Green, see picture below of Winston Churchill we will have a hot drink at the Tudor Rose Restaurant we are booked for 11.45am for this. After our hot drink we will make our way to ST Mary's Church which begun at least 800 years ago and developed over the following centuries into what you see today.,

The Christmas Tree Festival is a true Community event of this church, individuals, local businesses, clubs, societies, school and many others contribute elegantly, quirkily or entertainingly decorated trees which transforms it into a veritable Christmas grotto. {See images below of St Marys Church and one of the Christmas Trees in it} .

After seeing the trees we will walk around the graveyards and see the magnificent view of the North Down From there we will do a circular walk, which will include going past Quebec House {which you can go in later if you want} we will then carry on with our walk, crossing the River Darenth and walking up a hill to see more magnificent views of The North Downs, our walk will take us to the other side of the village where we will see a plaque on a house where William Pitt lived, from there we will walk up one side of the high street going to see the Doomsday Mosaic as shown below.

There are plenty of cafes and pubs to have lunch in this historical town, and time will be allowed for you to browse around at the shops. We will pick up either the 3.52 or 4.22pm buses so you can get back in plenty of time to get your train from Bromley South back to Victoria. Buses run every 30 minutes back to Bromley South , and the trains every 15 minutes from Bromley South to Victoria. For those that want to drive to Westerham you can meet us at the at The Tudor Rose Restaurant at 11.45am.
