Inside London: Middle Temple
We'll meet at 10.30 for tea and set off for the Middle Temple at 11.
The tour will take us around the historic and awe-inspiring buildings of Middle Temple along cobbled lanes flanked with gas street lamps towards one of the finest Elizabethan Halls in the country.
The tour take us into Middle Temple Hall with its magnificent double-hammer beam roof which was completed in 1573. Generations of royalty have all dined on the 29ft oak High Table – reputedly a gift from Elizabeth I herself. Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Francis Drake are known to have dined in the Hall. It is also said that the first-recorded performance of Twelfth Night took place in here in 1602.
After the tour of the building there will be a tour of the area to put it in context.
Optional lunch to follow at 1.30.
My number is 07815009191 in case you get lost.
If it says unpaid by your name, just ignore it. You can pay on the day. The cost is £12.
