Wetherspoon's booze walk {Highbury & Islington to Holborn}.

Wetherspoon's booze walk {Highbury & Islington to Holborn}.

Come with me, for an enjoyable booze walk visiting five Wetherspoon's pubs.

We will meet at the White Swan at 11 am which is close to Highbury & Islington Station.

{This pub backs onto Swan Yard, the remaining part of a much larger yard, belonging to the Old White Swan. The Old White Swan, demolished in the 1960s, stood next to the post office, separated from Club Union House by the railway station.}

At 11.30 am we will leave for our next our next pub which is a 20 minute walk away called The Angel {almost opposite Angel Tube Station}.

{This pub takes its name from the 17th-century coaching inn which gave the area its name. The original Angel was built in 1639, on the site of 1 Islington High Street. Replaced in 1819 and again at the turn of the 20th century, it remained a pub until 1921, when it opened as Lyons Corner House}.

We will then do a 25 minute walk to our next pub which is the Knight's Templar where we will have lunch {see image of pub above}

{This pub is the former Union Bank, and takes its name from the order of Warrior Knights across whose land Chancery Lane was built in the 12th century. It is named after an ancient order of Warrior Monks – The Knights Templar which features heavily in The Da Vinci Code ...}

Our 4th pub is Penderels Oak and is 5 minutes walk away.

{The episode of the oak tree at Boscobel, known either as Penderel’s Oak or Boscobel Oak, became he stuff of legend, and gave rise after the restoration of the monarchy in 1660 to numerous Royal Oak pubs. On Charles’ return, the Penderels were handsomely rewarded and he tree named after them became an object of loyal pilgrimage.}

Our 5th and final pub is the Shakespeare Head next to Holborn Station.

{This pub takes its name from its famous namesake which was in nearby Wych Street, off Drury Lane, frequented by actors and literary figures, such as Charles Dickens. The writer Mark Lemon spent several years as the pub’s landlord and later founded Punch magazine, which he edited for nearly 30 years, until his death in 1870.}

With Holborn Station being next door with tube trains running on the Central and Piccadilly lines.

The walking distance on this meet up is between 2-3 miles.
