Tim’s History Walks from Tower Hill to Rotherhithe

Tim’s History Walks from Tower Hill to Rotherhithe

Celebrating 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers!
In July 1620 the pilgrim fathers set sail from Rotherhithe to Massachusetts and we’re going to visit the spot from which the mayflower sailed
We meet in the lounge at the Citizen M hotel at 11.15 have a coffee and chat and then we cross the river for a two mile walk down the south bank of the river discovering unknown Bermondsey and Rotherhithe with great river views.

This was the first guided walk I ever did and is still a great favourite.

We finish at the Brunels' spectacular tunnel underneath the Thames and the Brunel Museum where for those who want to visit I’ll show you around.

The cast of characters includes Dickens, Pepys, JMW Turner, the Brunel family, Edward III, the Pilgrim Fathers, a south sea island prince and a modern day princess. We end at one of the most significant engineering sites in the world: the first tunnel underneath a navigable river opening up the era of mass transport.

We’ll have lunch in the famous Mayflower Pub where we will be eating on the terrace overlooking the Thames; a wonderful, historic riverside pub. All North Americans simply have to come!
