A Walk in London's Oldest Suburbs 2: Clerkenwell. Paul Sinclair

A Walk in London's Oldest Suburbs 2: Clerkenwell. Paul Sinclair

Maximum of 12 walkers in two bubbles of 6.

Cost £12. Meet on the benches outside Angel tube.

Following on from our walk around the Angel, we head down the hill through its poorer neighbour into the Fleet valley to Clerkenwell. Once highly industrialised and one of the poorest areas in London, said to have been 'invented' by Janet Street Porter, we'll visit the priory of the knights of St John, the first place to offer health as a public service, the heart of the gin craze in the 18th and 19th century, some of London's finest squares, the Italianate church built to draw back the non believing poor and where Stalin met Lenin to plot the Russian Revolution.
