A Historical day in Rochester visiting the Cathedral & Castle

This is a new meet up, and is well worth doing if able., and there is many photo opportunities.

A day in Historical Rochester is about exploring the Cathedral and the Castle. although there is also lots of shops in the High Street.

We will meet at Rochester Railway Station at 11 am, and wait to 11.15 am when will leave for The Golden Lion Hotel {wetherspoons} for a bite to eat{ the food is good in this pub} and something to drink.

After this, we will walk to the Cathedral which is less than 10 minutes away.

{Rochester Cathedral is England's second oldest, founded by Bishop Justus. The present building dates back to the work of the French monk Bishop Gundulf in 1083. The glorious Norman architecture of the nave, parts of the crypt, as well as one of the finest Romanesque facades in England.}

After we have been to the Cathedral, we will have our lunch break you can go to the many cafes & pubs or bring your own.

When we have had our lunch we will go to Rochester Castle., which is worth going to, as there a lot to see and when you climb up the stone steps to the top there are pictureque views.

{Rochester Castle stands on the east bank of the River Medway in Rochester, Kent, South East England. The 12th-century keep or stone tower, which is the castle's most prominent feature, is one of the best preserved of its time in England or France. }

After we have been to the Castle we will go back to The Golden Lion for a drink..

Please note:

If you have a knee problem it is not recommended to go to the Castle, as the stone steps are quite steep.

Getting There

Thameslink train to Rainham, this comes from Luton, and you need to get a off peak day return from Dartford to Rochester with the cost being £7.50 with a senior rail card.

Trains also run from Victoria via Bromley South to Rochester, and also the HST from St.Pancras to Rochester via Stratford International.
You will need to check your fares on these journeys.
