NAPLES, POMPEII & HERCULANEUM - A GRAND TOUR with Lits
ITINERARY:
Friday 17th February
On arrival at Naples airport we will have a private transfer to our hotel in the city centre. After checking in we will have time for a spot of lunch (an irresistible slice of infamous thin crusted, crispy wood-fired pizza!?) before setting off in the afternoon for a two-hour walking tour around the city with a local guide who will share fascinating stories about the city’s millennia of history and culture.
This evening we will dine together to sample the delicious cucina (and vino!) of Campania at a traditional trattoria (included).
Saturday 18th February
After breakfast we will take a 40-minute train ride for our exciting day to Pompeii. Our expert guide will be waiting to give us a two-hour insight tour into the highlights of this astonishingly well-preserved town where its’ streets, temples, murals, baths, amphitheatre (and even bodies!), protected by pumice and ash, remain largely intact, contributing to our knowledge of the Roman way of life.
We will then have free time to explore more for ourselves before returning to Naples for an evening at leisure.
Sunday 19th February
You are free to choose your own itinerary but I will be armed with a myriad of choices and exciting possibilities for us to do either together or independently. The 'Bay of Naples' is our oyster!
Monday 20th February
Herculaneum Day! After taking the train for a mere 20 mins we arrive in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius for our outing to the second of the wonderfully preserved Roman UNESCO sites. Our expert guide will meet us for a two-hour discovery tour of the hidden secrets of this ancient settlement buried by the scalding mud of the eruption, only revealed by deep excavation.
Later in the afternoon we will wend our way back to Naples for a brief rest before hitting the town for our final feast together at a local ristorante (included).
Tuesday 21st February
After breakfast a private transfer will transport us to the airport.
