Advanced Navigation Training - in more challenging terrain

Advanced Navigation Training - in more challenging terrain

The National Navigation Awards Scheme (NNAS) provides an in depth, structured approach to the development of navigation skills. At this level participants will be required to effectively use a map, supported by a compass, in a range of settings including open more remote settings and at night. They will undertake navigational challenges that are a significant step up from the 'starter' NNAS Bronze award courses. Completion of the weekend will given them the knowledge and understanding to be able find their way confidently in most moorland, hill and lowland terrain.

This weekend will take place in and around the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset. There is a fantastic campsite at Burnbake near Corfe Castle but for those of you needing something a little more comfortable, the seaside town of Swanage or the market town of Wareham should be able to provide. The objective for the weekend is to develop our navigation skills to plan routes for longer distance walks, to develop an understanding of finer navigation skills and to experience working in more challenging circumstances.

You will be sent pre course information and a kit list.

Please do not feel that you need to buy any extra kit prior to the course, Whatever you normally go walking in will, i'm sure, be fine.
Maps and compasses will be provided.

For more information on any of the events please visit the NNAS website:

Whilst the incidence of Covid 19 infections within the population appears to be reducing there is still no room for complacency. If you have displayed symptoms of Covid 19 (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/check-if-you-have-coronavirus-symptoms/) in the fourteen days prior to the start date of the event then please STAY AWAY. If you have been in contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with Covid 19 less than 14 days prior to the event, please STAY AWAY.

During the event you will be expected to adopt higher than usual standards of hygiene. We should assume that there will be no toilet or bathroom facilities when we are out walking. Please ensure that you have your own hand sanitising gel, and use it frequently. We will observe the latest government advice regarding social distancing throughout the event and it will be the responsibility of the whole group to monitor this.
You will be given a map and compass at the start of each day. It will have been cleansed with sanitising gel beforehand. Please ensure they are cleaned before you return hem at the end of day 2.

Unless government guidelines change, I do not recommend the wearing of masks or rubber gloves during any of my events.

If as a result of the event having to be cancelled due to changes in lockdown rules, any fee paid will be either returned to you immediately or with your agreement will be retained until such time as you are able to attend a course.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding our approach please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I will not publish any further information on this platform and you cannot RSVP as usual - to book a place on the course you must talk to me first. If you are genuinely interested I will send you full details by email, text or whatsapp. If you have any enquiries please get in touch.
