Eight Walks Along the Thames 2: Southwark with Historian Paul Sinclair
Southwark once famed for everything that was not welcome in the City of London: prostitution, prisons, theatres, bear and bull baiting and smuggled goods. the area owned by the Bishop of Winchester, how did he cope with such goings on? We'll see the graveyard of the so called Winchester Geese, the poor women denied a burial in consecrated ground, the site of the Globe and Rose theatres and London's last galleried inn dating back to the 1600s.
All this and lunch in an historic pub.
We meet at 10.45 and set off at 11.15.
Our first stop is by the Old Operating Theatre 9a St Thomas' Street and my number is 07815009191.
