PRIVATE GUIDED VISITS TO LEIGHTON HOUSE&SAMBOURNE HOUSE, KENSINGTON – with Lits

Let’s spend a day together enjoying private guided tours of two of the most fascinating houses in London (with time for lunch in between).

Leighton House has recently re-opened, having been closed for several years so I thought it timely to organise this rare opportunity and special tour, available only to small groups.

Frederick Lord Leighton was the most eminent British painter of the short-lived Aesthetic movement (1860’s –1890) and built himself the most extraordinary studio-house. One of the tenets of the Aestheticism was that every style could be plundered and mingled with others - ‘beauty exists in many forms’. Leighton House exemplifies this at its best with works in the Renaissance style placed side by side with ‘exotic’ objects and textiles from the East.

A few minutes walk around the corner is Sambourne House, home of the Punch cartoonist, Linley Sambourne and another wonderful example of an Aesthetic-period interior, though on a much more modest scale.

Each guided tour will last an hour and a half; starting at 11.30 at Leighton House. We will take time for lunch at 1pm in the De Morgan Café in the new wing before walking eight minutes along the road to Sambourne House for our tour at 2.30pm.

Cost £40.00 per person
Includes MeetUp fee and two guided tours. Lunch is not included.
